Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming week at the Medical Center.
Tuesday, Dec. 12
Schwartz Rounds to address burnout, provider-patient relationships
Vickie Skinner, director of continuing health professional education, is scheduled to facilitate the next Schwartz Center Rounds presentation, "Strengthening Provider-Patient Relationships by Spotting and Addressing Burnout," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in classroom R354 (upper amphitheatre).
Additional speakers will include Dr. Erin Dehon, associate professor of emergency medicine, Dr. John B. Ingram, associate professor of pediatric neurology, and Dr. Daniel C. Williams, associate professor of psychiatry.
All Medical Center health care givers are invited. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis. Attendees must bring their valid UMMC ID badges to register.

Neurobiologist to give peek through residual connectivity window
Dr. Boba Stokic, affiliate professor of neurobiology and anatomical sciences, will give the Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, “Inter-Limb Reflexes After Human Spinal Cord Injury: A Window into Residual Connectivity” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in classroom 3A (N318 on the North Wing).

Surgery professor to cover vascular surgery for general surgeons
Dr. Marc E. Mitchell, professor of surgery, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds presentation, “Vascular Surgery for the General Surgeon,” from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, in room CW 106 of the Classroom Wing.

Physiology prof to give GWIMS talk on portfolio, CV prep
Dr. Barbara T. Alexander, professor of physiology and biophysics and Core Leader for the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research, will give the Group on Women in Medicine and Science presentation, “How to Enhance Your CV and Prepare Your Portfolio for Promotion and/or Tenure,” at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Norman C. Nelson Student Union.

Physiology postdoc to present potential preeclampsia treatment target
Dr. Bhavisha Bakrania, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Soluble Guanylate Cyclase as a Target for the Treatment of Preeclampsia,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Case Western family med expert to discuss childhood obesity
Dr. Goutham Rao, Jack H. Medalle Professor and Chair of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, will present “Management of Childhood Obesity and Cardiovascular Risks in Primary Care Settings” at noon on Thursday, Dec. 14, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.
The seminar is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research and the Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center.
